WILLIAMSTOWN NEW YOUTH CENTER FUND RAISER date set for JUNE 26, SATURDAY
In support of the construction of a new Youth Center, Day & Beth Acheson are hosting a ‘Benefit Day’ on Saturday, June 26th at their health services clinic Day & Beth Healing Arts at 210 Water Street, Williamstown.
The purpose of this fund raiser is to give people a vehicle to donate to this timely project that the Youth Center has chosen and to receive a treatment of health for themselves at the same time. In support of this project all of the proceeds from this benefit will be donated to the NEW Youth Center campaign.
If you have never before tried an acupuncture session, or any of the other healing therapies available, this is an opportunity to do so at a reduced fee of $50 (normal fee is $80) while at the same time making a valuable contribution to the financial goal of the Youth Center campaign.
The healing therapies offered at their clinic are all chosen because of their ability to strengthen our human body’s inherent self-healing abilities. The premise of this method of medicine is to follow the body’s natural way to good health. In the literature, health improvements have been demonstrated for basically all health conditions when therapies of these types are used. A list of the therapies offered with descriptions can be seen at www.dbhearts.com along with information about the clinic and biographies of Day and Beth.
The project of building a brand new and expanded Youth Center is something that Day and Beth both feel very excited about. Here are some words in support of the fast resources that the Williamstown Youth Center provides for the children and families of Northern Berkshire county...
"The Williamstown Youth Center has served the needs of children and families of Williamstown and surrounding communities for many generations. The Youth Center presently offers three major areas of programming. These include an after-school program, full-day programs when school is not in session, and sports and arts programming. Through these years, the Youth Center has positively influenced thousands of young lives.
"Today, the community is faced with an uncertain future for these essential services due to the substantial deterioration of its facility located at 270 Cole Avenue. The Youth Center suffers from inadequate space, inaccessibility, energy inefficiency, absence of parking, a busy traffic pattern, failing mechanical systems and a basement subject to frequent flooding.
"A strategic planning initiative in 2008, involving many people from the community, resulted in a vision to build a new, efficiently designed facility. With the support of the citizens of the Town of Williamstown and the Williamstown School Committee, the Youth Center has an opportunity to build a new center on the grounds of the Williamstown Elementary School. In order to accomplish this goal, a capital campaign has begun to raise 3.5 million dollars so that a 12,000 square foot facility can be constructed. As of the beginning of April, 1.7 million dollars have been raised.
"It is anticipated that a new youth center facility would have a dramatic impact on the number of children who would attend the after-school program. At the present time, between 40 and 80 children attend on a daily basis. Community members have suggested that the enrollment would more than double with a facility that is inviting as opposed to our present cramped space. Although our after-school program primarily serves children who reside in Williamstown, quite a few children from neighboring communities take advantage of our summer camp and sports programs. Approximately 20% of our summer and vacation week participants come from other communities, most notably North Adams. More than 400 children enrolled in our 2009 summer camp. Some 600 children participated in the Youth Center’s sports and arts programming during the 2008-2009 school year."
